Head Race Skis 2014-2015

Head Race Mini - SkiReviewer

The 2014–2015 Head Race range is somehow odd. The skis that the general public can use are splitted into two different categories, which is… weird? They are the “Racing” category and the “Performance” one. So in order to make everyone´s life easier, just avoid any ski in the Racing category that has an “RD” in its name. Why? Those skis are the real race skis (RD stands for Race Department) and are FIS approved. So those skis are for competition purposes and nothing else. Don´t think of them as the best but the impossible ones for you to ski with. The rest of the Head Race category skis are in the Performance section and they are the iSupershape skis. So let´s make the summary: (more…)

Vist Race Mini - SkiReviewer

The Vist Race range of 2014–2015 is short but one of the most effective available in the market today. Vist just offers three models although they can be considered three masterpieces. And before we continue discussing the Vist Race range let’s put it clear. I am biased since I own two Vist Race skis and I have skied all the Vist models available since 2006. So yes, I have been seduced by «The Dark Side». But not completely. I still enjoy skiing my «super-old» Dynastar Speed 63 skis. I still can appreciate other’s work as great such as the Stöckli Race line or praise the Fischer Worldcup RC4 SC as one of the greatest SL skis for the general public of the last decade. Therefore my bias has a short run. (more…)

Stöckli Race Skis 2014-2015

Stockli Race Mini - SkiReviewer

Stöckli and race are two words that fit together very well. And as it couldn´t be any other way, this season´s Stöckli Race range is one of the best in the market. However, if you are one of those looking for exciting “new” features, revolutionary technologies and so on and so forth you will be very bored with Stöckli. On the other hand, if you’re looking for the proven and tested, welcome home. (more…)

Rossignol Race Mini - SkiReviewer

The Rossignol Race range for 2014-2015 is one of the most beatiful collections in this next season. All models share a very attractive design with a retro flavour from last century´s seventies. Elegant, simple, functional and yet very Rossignol in the end. As in every other brand, there is a clear difference between the FIS and the non-FIS models. The racing athletes will go for the FIS ones straight away since those comply with the official racing standars. The general public must choose the non-FIS ones since they are much more forgiving, easier to handle and appropiate to their needs and desires. (more…)

Nordica Race Skis 2014-2015

Nordica Race Mini - SkiReviewer

This year´s Nordica Race range has everything you might expect from a well known manufacturer. Although the brand wants us to believe they´ve got a lot more skis than they are really offering. The whole Race range is divided into three sections: Pro, Expert and Intermediate. Every ski maker chooses to classify their products in the way they believe users will understand the easiest. Nordica has gone one step further and these three sections will help users to make a better decision when they point to the Nordica´s Race range. (more…)

Elan Race Skis 2015-2016

Elan Race Mini - SkiReviewer

The Elan Race range for 2015–2016 repeats all the concepts, except one, from the last year -and the year before-. All configurations are the same, the only significant changes are the aesthetics. From this writer´s perspective, in the last season 2014-2015 they improved a lot in that direction since the use of the green colour in season 2013-2014 on the Elan Race models was not sensible but abusive. But here we go again, more green than ever. Last season’s “new” model was the Elan Ripstick Fusion. Despite the novelty, this “new” ski is just the Elan GSX Fusion, but with a different name and different aesthetics. Even the binding system is the same. If they keep following this path I am afraid that their only problem won´t be just the EU´s comission. Link: http://europa.eu/rapid/press-release_IP-12-984_en.htm (more…)

Blizzard Race Skis 2014-2015

Blizzard Race Mini - SkiReviewer

The Blizzard Race range of the 2014-2015 season is divided into three lines. And yet it is a quite straight forward to understand frame. The first model we encounter is a standalone model, the Blizzard WRC Racing WC Piston, which is a downgraded model spinned off from those on the top racing category, the FIS ones. Without the need to follow the official competition rules from the FIS, this ski is a very good option to get into how a serious competition style ski feels without having all the drawbacks. The other four models are splitted into two lines, short turns and long turns. (more…)

Atomic Race Mini - SkiReviewer

The 2014-2015 Atomic Race range sticks to the official racing standards and offers not many more things beyond that. The FIS range has everything a racer with a license would need and even all what he or she could imagine. The non-FIS range, which is to say the one the general public is only interested in, is a more than decent selection. It is very complete and is intended to appeal anyone who desires to have a pair of racing skis. (more…)

Dynastar Race Mini - SkiReviewer

The Dynastar Race range for 2014–2015 is short but a very focused one. The FIS models take the lead since there are more of those models available than there are for the general public. That said, Dynastar offers a very simple yet effective proposition. Just four models, two for long turns and two for short. Its cousin brand Rossignol offers twice as much. And we could also state that the offer is even shorter, just two really different skis seem to be available, and being the main difference between the models, apart from their turn type tendency, the binding system. The range is: (more…)

Volkl Race Mini - SkiReviewer

The Völkl Race range of 2014–2015 is as the brand´s character. Sober, direct, precise and a bit harsh sometimes. Yes, harsh. Have you seen what names does Völkl use in their Race line? Race, tiger, speed, wall. Scary, isn´t it? (more…)
